THE LIGHT OF ALL THAT FALLS

By James Islington

This series has quickly become one of my favorite fantasy series of all time. Author James Islington may be someone you’ve never heard of but I advise you to get to know him, fast.

I was hooked to the Licanius trilogy from the beginning. The characters are delightfully flawed and imperfect humans who have been given perhaps more power than they can truly handle. The world is an incredible creation of complex magical realism and beautifully dark imagery. The religious undertones lend the book a thought provoking plot. And Islington ties it all together with a neat little bow in this last installment.

Consistency. That’s the hardest thing for fantasy authors who introduce magical elements or, even more so, the element of time travel into their novels. But Islington does it seamlessly. He introduces the rules which organize the world and he follows them strictly. I admire this distinction.

Dramatic, mystifying, and, at times, shocking, this culmination of hundreds of pages containing the journey of Davian, Wirr, Asha, Caeden, and so many others will have you gasping and crying, even chuckling from time to time.

I cannot recommend this series enough!

If you are an avid fantasy reader, don’t mind losing yourself for hundreds of pages at a time, and are looking for something new that BookTok is NOT going to recommend you, THIS IS IT.

Start the Licanius Trilogy and thank me later.

FURYBORN

By Claire Legrand

You guys… when I tell you I was NOT READY for this. I’m still speechless.

Full disclosure: I started this series a few years ago and got distracted by Shadow and Bone, understandably. I literally found this on my shelf and decided to give it a second chance and BOY AM I GLAD I did.

First of all:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ obviously

I literally can’t decide who’s my favorite character but I’m leaning HARD for Simon. Essentially, this book goes back and forth between 2 1,000 years apart timelines based on a prophecy that is NOT AT ALL what you expect it to be. With wars between angels and humans, magical gifts, and horribly disfigured mutations, what more could you ask for?

If you’re into #fantasybooks at all, give it a try. It will NOT disappoint.
